Deep Tissue Massage

What is it?
This is based on Swedish massage, the most widely practiced form of massage, and probably the most well known in the West. If you have never had a massage before it is a great one to start with. It uses a combination of different massage techniques ranging from long, slow movements along the muscles to shorter “pummelling”-type movements.

Who is it for?
Traditional deep tissue massage is suitable for almost everyone but it is perfect for people who experience postural related aches and pain, have an old injury that causes a little discomfort every now and again, or those prefer a more vigorous* massage to unwind.

What will happen on my first visit?
Your first visit will start with a short consultation which will give us time to take your details and ask you some quick questions about your general health, medical history, etc. You will also be asked whether you’ve had a massage before and whether there is a specific reason for visiting so that we can understand what you’d like to achieve with you treatment.

Then we will ask you to undress and cover yourself over with the towel provided. We want you to feel as relaxed as possible, so it’s up to you whether you undress completely or just down to your underwear, either is perfectly fine. Your therapist will leave the room while you undress and position yourself, and will not reenter the room without knocking to make sure you’re ready.

The therapist will usually start with you laying face down depending on your reason for booking your appointment and they may spend longer on one area than another based on your consultation. Then all you need to do it lay back and enjoy your treatment!

*Although Deep Tissue Massage can be more vigorous than other types, please remember that no massage should be unbearably painful. You should always feel able to let your therapist know whether the pressure is too much for you. This is why your practitioner at Wisbey Osteopathy will always check in periodically to make sure you’re getting the most out of your massage.
