We offer specific pregnancy and postnatal appointments with our osteopath, Sam, who will support you through every stage of your pregnancy with safe, gentle, evidence-informed care.
Pregnancy is incredible — but it also places significant physical demands on your body. As your baby grows, posture changes, ligaments soften, and your centre of gravity shifts. It’s completely normal to experience discomfort. It’s also something you don’t just have to “put up with.”
At Wisbey Osteopathy, we offer specialised pregnancy osteopathy and pregnancy massage designed to help you move comfortably, feel supported, and prepare your body for birth.
Pregnancy Osteopathy
Pregnancy osteopathy focuses on reducing pain, improving mobility, and helping your body adapt to the rapid changes that occur throughout each trimester.
Using gentle, tailored hands-on techniques, we work with your changing posture, joints, muscles and nervous system to improve comfort and function.
Common reasons women seek treatment:
- Lower back pain
- Pelvic girdle pain (PGP)
- Sciatic-type symptoms
- Mid-back and rib discomfort
- Neck and shoulder tension
- Hip pain
- Pubic symphysis discomfort
- Headaches
We use safe positioning and techniques appropriate for pregnancy. Treatment is always adapted to your trimester and comfort level.
Your first appointment includes:
- A detailed case history (including obstetric history)
- Discussion of your current symptoms
- Screening questions to ensure treatment is appropriate
- Postural and movement assessment
- Hands-on treatment
- A personalised treatment plan
We work collaboratively alongside your midwife, GP or consultant appointments, and will always refer you onward if anything requires medical input.
Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy massage is a deeply nurturing, therapeutic treatment designed to ease muscular tension, reduce swelling, and promote relaxation.
This isn’t just a “spa treat” (although it feels lovely). It can be extremely effective for managing the muscular strain that builds during pregnancy, with the benefit of being delivered by experienced, osteopathic hands.
Benefits may include:
- Reduced back, hip and shoulder tension
- Relief from heavy or tired legs
- Improved circulation
- Reduced fluid retention
- Better sleep
- Lower stress levels
We use supportive side-lying positioning with cushions and bolsters to keep you comfortable and safe throughout. Pressure is always tailored to you — from gentle and calming to deeper therapeutic work where appropriate.
Is Treatment Safe During Pregnancy?
Yes — when delivered by appropriately trained professionals.
Osteopathy and massage during pregnancy are widely used to support musculoskeletal health. We carry out appropriate screening, and there are certain situations where treatment may need to be adapted or postponed (for example, specific pregnancy complications).
Your safety and your baby’s wellbeing are always the priority.
Postnatal Osteopathy
The body doesn’t instantly “go back” after birth and sometimes the transition from freshly postpartum to easing into daily life with a newborn can be challenging. Postnatal osteopathy can support:
- Recovery from birth (including caesarean section)
- Persistent back or pelvic pain
- Feeding posture strain
- Core and pelvic rehabilitation
You are very welcome to bring your baby to your appointment, but please note we do not currently offer paediatric appointments for babies. Sam is happy to offer advice and support around any baby-related questions that you may have if she is able to as Sam is a mother as well.
